Landscapes of Consciousness: On Language & Empathy LIMITED
Limited Capacity seats available

One key characteristic that sets human beings aside from other animal species is our ability to attribute others with feelings and motivations -- also called a "theory of mind"; the origin point of empathy. Little by little, this skill becomes dangerously automated as we adopt cultural stereotypes and classify the world in categories. In this workshop, participants will explore different strategies to help students "walk in other people's shoes" in the language classroom, building not only an intercultural but an interpersonal competence.
